Round table ‘STEAM Education under debate: knowledge and skills’.

Summary: In the framework of International Education Day, CSIC is organising this round table to discuss different approaches to pre-university teaching of STEAM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Humanities and Mathematics): one that prioritises competences and the other that gives prominence to content. The initiative, promoted by the working group on Science Education of the Deputy Vice-Presidency for Scientific Culture and Citizen Science of the CSIC (VACC-CSIC) and the Institute of Mathematical Sciences (ICMAT), was created with the aim of encouraging reflection on science education today. The Community of Madrid, the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sport, and the European Research Council are collaborating. It is an event with an academic content adapted to different audiences, with the focus on Primary and Secondary Education teachers.

  • Digna Couso, researcher at the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
  • Carmen Tovar, Director of the National Institute for Educational Assessment of the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sport.
  • David Cervera, Director General of Bilingualism and Quality of Education of the Spanish Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sport.
  • Salomé Cejudo, member of the CSIC at School team and of the VACC-CSIC Science Education working group.
