- Summary: In 2014, Maryam Mirzakhani (Iran, 1977-2017) became the first woman to receive the Fields Medal, the most prestigious award in mathematics. This lecture will briefly describe Mirzakhani’s research, in the field of geometry, as well as giving some insights into the path she took to become one of the most influential mathematicians of her generation.
11 February, International Day of Women and Girls in Science
The ICMAT celebrates the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, joining the campaign ‘Todas hacemos ciencia’ of the Deputy Vice-Presidency for Scientific Culture. The objectives are to give visibility to the role of women at all stages of scientific careers and to promote interest in science among the younger public.
